COVID-19 Response & Community Preparedness
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sabhagi Vikas adopted a community-led approach across 15 Panchayats and 85 villages of Jaldega and Thethaitangar Blocks. Community volunteers, Gram Sabha leaders and PRI members were trained to spread awareness on COVID-19 prevention, hygiene, mask use and physical distancing.
The organization supported vulnerable families through dry ration, masks and soaps, facilitated access to Mukhyamantri Didi Kitchen, PDS, pensions, health and nutrition services, and supported returning migrant workers through MGNREGA employment and Job Cards. Community grain banks were also established to strengthen local food security.
Need for Continued Precautions:
The COVID-19 experience reminds us that communities need to remain prepared for future outbreaks and public health emergencies. Regular health awareness, personal hygiene, appropriate use of masks when required, respiratory etiquette, timely vaccination as advised by health authorities, early identification of symptoms, and cooperation with public health services remain important precautions. Community institutions such as Gram Sabhas, volunteers and local leaders play an essential role in spreading correct information and supporting vulnerable families.
